View Full Version : Starfleet Schematics Gallery

LCARS 24

I've put together a gallery of 21 Starfleet schematics on my Web site, which includes some by Explorer and some by Deif, and made each image come up at full resolution when you click on a thumbnail. This will later be linked by Cygnus Star Trek Schematics:*

Looking very sweet Bill,
I love the "uniformity" of it.

Thanks for showing us this.

Bill, we have known each other for many years, and your LCARS skills get better and better every time you go into production of a new scheme. Thank you for sharing your work and ideas as always.

LCARS 24

Thanks guys, and thanks for the help and for pointing out little things to add or fix.* Adding the Borg Transwarp coil to the Delta Flyer schematic was Deif's idea. And thanks, Adge, for the references you sent me. And the only thing I changed in Explorer's images was to add the dropdown shuttlebay to the Defiant.

As you all know, the Star Trek LCARS Blueprint Database at Cygnus-X.Net is a comprehensive resource for those of us who like to make MSDs.

http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/blueprints-main2.php

And they've just added a reformated version of the gallery I posted above, linked on the above page.* So a lot of people who don't have LCARS 24 installed will now be able to enjoy your contributions. Here's the direct link:

I'm trying to concentrate on the programming end of it, but we do have another four new MSDs so far and more coming.

The first two are from Deif. You've seen his large versions. But these are in LCARS 24 style.

These are nice and clear* and I must say I am particularly impressed by your Constellation and Savannah Class - SS Botany Bay especially, these are great interpretations indeed.

Great work.* ;D* I really like your attention to detail.* Keep up the great work and keep those updates coming.* ;)

Thanks, guys. Deif, with his Maquis raider, got me thinking about the Peregrine class and gave me some ideas about how it should look. As soon as I mentioned it to another contributor, he immediately whipped up a partial image, and I got a little carried away trying to imitate the style of Deif's Maquis Raider. Here's the result:

I was working on the peregrine fighter myself a while ago, but lost the clue... so, i have to say, that's a wonderful work. well done, janderson and you put everything together as always, bill. thumb's up!

Thanks, Deif.

I upgraded the subroutines that render the LCARS MSD pointers and started a gallery of NASA/ESA schematic, with only five items so far but more in the works.

http://lcars24.com/nasagal.html

I also modified a lot of the Starfleet MSDs and used some of Deif's ideas from the Maquis raider to add toys to the Type 8 and Type 9 shuttles by Deif. And I changed the image credits on the lower LCARS bracket for the one's by Explorer to WWW.LCARSC.COM (http://WWW.LCARSC.COM). There are now 32 items in that gallery, and No. 33, not ready yet, will be the U.S.S Raven in a style a bit different from the canon MSD.

http://lcars24.com/starfleet.html

Next will be a gallery of screenshots of the LCARS system and its programs.

LCARS 24
03-12-2009, 08:09 AM
The latest is the Raven, with some deviation from the canon MSD in order to show a nacelle, impulse engine, and forward landing strut:

Thanks, Deif.

I also just put up a gallery of 39 LCARS 24 system and program screenshots:

http://lcars24.com/screenie.html

Maybe that's too much LCARS to view at one time, but it's really just a brief overview of the whole thing.

Adge

Bill,

IMO they are just the right size for viewers to get a feel for what LCARS24 will present via the different Apps, system references, toys et all.* Just right :).

LCARS 24
03-12-2009, 07:26 PM
Thank, Adge.

I hope so. I've been very lazy about doing that, but I learned from doing the MSD galleries, and lcars24.com has been getting more traffic lately, mostly for the MSDs, probably.

The main problem remains the same, though: Most people who might like to have it just don't have anything to install it on, since it requires an old Pentium PC just for LCARS 24. Not that anybody would use a new PC for that, anyway, but the newer ones have forced power management and can't be used as a full-time alarm clock, which was the original purpose of LCARS 24. I use it for that in my house but also for its more efficient word processing, which makes my paying work go faster than if doing it using Windows. The Sudoku app gets a lot of use, too! The latest download figure from SourceForge is just over 127,000, including source files and add-ons.*

By the way, here's a low-res screencap from the fanmade series The Helena Chronicles with my Nebula MSD in the background:

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm309/LCARS24/Helena.jpg

They asked for permission to use it some time back, and I just now took a look and spotted that.

I don't have time to finish it up now, but here's a running start on the next one. I hope the joystick in the operator's hand is clear and obvious enough.* It will be labeled.

LCARS 24

Here's the labeled version, still incomplete, though. There's also a leg-level monitor forward of the underside viewport I haven't drawn in or labeled yet. And the exterior robotic waldo, when I get it drawn in, will be like the one shown on Ex Astris Scientia, or some variation of that.

Thanks, guys.* I can't think of any more Starfleet vessels I want to do, but there are lots of NASA things not covered yet.* J. That Phoenix needs more corrections. I just got some photos taken by someone who has access to the original model and has offered to take more.* And I do want the schematic to be correct.*

The Ferengi Marauder is more or less done, though:

http://lcars24.com/schem40.html*

The contributor also made a large, detailed version, and this is a reworked version of that for clear display in this size.

deif
08-02-2009, 11:31 PM
nice to see the marauder. it looks a bit too ...federation - e.g. computer cores, drives. but just my two cents here. i really like the colors.

LCARS 24
08-03-2009, 01:53 AM
I originally suggested khaki outline with mango deck lines for Ferengi vessels, but John asked about using brick for the deck lines.* I loved the idea, but it took a lot of experimenting to come up with the outline color you see.* So thanks to his idea, we ended up with an unusual but great color scheme. The frame color in that figure is khaki, and the outline color is similar but slightly brighter (outline: #FFFF66, decks: #CC6666).

It was hard to find colors I liked for the Bird-of-Prey, too.* I have also experimented with colors for Romulan ships, too, which might be just Vreenak's shutttle, since the Warbird just has too many decks for a schematic in this small size, even though it would be cool in a very large schematic.*

There are several new ones here, including Deif's Romulan shuttle and Apollo, so now 45 Trek and 9 real space. And the next version of LCARS 24 should be posted for download sometime today. I just finished pollishing up the last new feature for it, and the testers are happy. I added an autorun mode for the LCARS Powerpoint clone, and one of the demos is the whole Trek galleny, which means it displays one MSD every 30 seconds continuously until you stop it.

Deif's Valdore class has been added to the gallery on my Web site and will be in the next release.

And here's something I just started on, for which there is very little information as to what goes where inside. It's pretty freaky already and will likely be even more freaky once it's done.

Dominion attack cruiser:
http://lcars24.com/JH1.PNG

I don't have the DS9 tech manual. So I don't know if that has anything about what's inside. But if it does, it's problematic, anyway, since the dimensions for this in the tech manual are shown on various Web sites, and they're not even close to the on-screen evidence. I'm going with Bernd's estimate of 95 meters overall length.

That's No. 49 of the Trek schematics, and No. 50 is a torpedo/probe launcher done in Illustrator by a new contributor who recently discovered LCARS 24 and has it installed on two old laptops. He matched the style of the rest of the library and even learned enough about SFML to make the script for rendering the screen and labels. Those two and Mir aren't on my Web site yet.

Those Star Trek carpentars were amazing, though. They built that Alice mock-up out of wood and then messed it up near the end of filming for the scenes showing it before Tom fixed it it up. The only thing not made from scratch was the front glass, which they ripped off from the type 6 mock-up. There was also a GCI for the flight scenes, not to mention some nice LCARS animation of Alice shown in that episode.

LCARS 24
01-08-2011, 09:07 AM
Thanks. There was a nice spread of the model on Drex Files, which made it easy to imagine, when looking at it from various angles, that that big section could easlily be a large bay for fighters, especially since this was a makeshift use of one of the Intrepid prototypes thrown together during the Dominion War that had to be well equipped to deal with the Jem'Hadar. I asked about it, but it's an old thread, and I may never get a response. But now that I've fixed the schematic it does mesh well with the model, as well as the ship's mission.

Actually, this will be No. 72 of the Trek section, for a total of 83 MSDs if you include the 11 real-space things, most of which were done by Deif and J. Anderson. But the LCARS programs do include, for one thing, animation of a runabout, where you can spin a CGI made by a professional who does things for movies and see it from various angles. He was nice enough to provide frames for me to use in LCARS 24. There is a screenshot of that on my Web site. For Bajoran ships, Deif's style would be really good. I'll at least look over his stuff when doing the machinery aft of the cockpit in this raider, to get ideas.

LCARS 24
02-05-2011, 07:38 PM
Thanks, guys. Yeah, the design may seem strange to us humans, but it's Vulcan. So there must be some logic to it. At least when a shuttle is attached to the warp sled it can travel many times faster than it could under its own power, it can separate from the warp sled at the destination, and one can even command the unmanned sled to return home on its own with or without the shuttle. When Spock went to join the Enterprise crew in TMP, he had to cover some 14 light-years very quickly to make it on time, and this was his vessel of choice to accomplish that.

Thanks, guys. I updated three decks of the Defiant plans, and yesterday I was working on the Chaffee as a follow-up when the 8.9 quake hit 240 miles from my house. I got my younger daughter and dog outside. The Skype connection was left open as we left in a hurry, and my elder daughter in New York could hear my younger daughter's room being ransacked my Ma Nature. We had frequent strong aftershocks for the first few hours, and now, a day later, they're down to about 20 minutes apart, although there was a 6.8 three hours ago.

Anyway, house cleaning is done, and the Chaffee will be No. 82.

It's bad up in Sendai but worse in Haiti--much higher dealth toll and no money to rebuild. The Tokyo area seems back to normal. The quake was scary, but most of the real damage was from the tsunami. We're still getting aftershocks three days later that might freak out people not used to quakes, but they don't seem to be causing any damage, and most people here ignore them.

Anyway, here's just the image for the Chaffee. I'll label it later.

I got some unexpected help from Doug Drexler on this one. Somebody must have e-mailed him about it. Now we have an official size for the Chaffee: 8 meters in length. So I made the appropriate modifications to comply with designer intent, and I can call this one done. It's the last of the latest batch to be added at Cygnus some time this week.

LCARS 24

Andy Probert and Rick Sternbach have helped me with a few things in the past. It's always a surprise to hear from them. Andy said that the reason the
Romulan Warbird's impluse engines are never seen is that they grabbed his design drawings before he was finished. He told me exactly where to put them in my drawing, said that the ribs on top were escape pods (which Doug didn't know when he designed Vreenak's shuttle), and that the scenes showing disruptor blasts coming from the main deflector were a mistake. I made modifications to the drawing and callouts for every little point he cited, to comply, as always, with designer intent, even if it conflicts with something seen on screen. I had never heard anything from Doug before, but I'm glad he volunteered to clear up the mystery about the intended size of this shuttlecraft. But Doug was very nice and even provided a diagram to show that what he was saying made sense.

LCARS 24
03-21-2011, 10:52 PM
Well, I research these things the best I can then show them in TrekTech on TrekBBS, where my stuff gets scrutinized by people who know more about these ships than I. Mike Okuda, Rick Sternbach, and Andy Probert are long-time members who look in once in a while and sometimes post. Doug Drexler joined a few days ago just to clear up the size of the Chaffee and comment on the Defiant. I figure someone e-mailed him and persuaded him to do that. They want to make sure that their work is represented correctly. They ususally don't want to give the size of a ship or number of decks, etc., but somethimes they will jump in and clear up these points. Bolian Admiral has contacted Mike Okuda a few times and says he's very nice about answering questions, but I don't like to bother those guys. And I've never even commented on any of Mike"s posts, let alone bothered him with questions.

Anyway, I'm more or less out of ships to do. This latest batch has been added at Cygnus, bringing the total to 81:

http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/lcars24.php

Mike and Rick often post on drex files, but only on Doug's latest topic. For an older topic, nobody answers if you have a question. It's the same with John Eaves' blog Eavesdropping with Johnny. But still, both of those are good sources of information, where a lot of questions have already been answered, although usually the most important questions for somebody doing an MSD were never asked.
