Nice work deif. I especially like the diagram of the Impulse Engine, It looks very similar to something I've seen in the DS9 Tech Manual.

Great stuff, need I say more!! !lol

just another lcars graphic!
it's a display of the stars on and near sector 001 based on real stars.
it shows clearly the problem of the missing 3th dimension in star trek graphics. e.g., *if you look on the 2d projection disk you will see babel (wolf 424) close to sol - but in reality it is 14ly away! but this will be revealed only in the 3d display.
all habited systems are marked with a 2ly wide sphere - blue for the worlds of the federation and yellow for indepentend worlds.
hope, you'll enjoy it.

btw. wish you all merry christmas and a happy, peaceful new year!

greetings from the swissalps!

important federation colonies #001
i was playing around with lunarcell under photoshop and there this idea was born: to *create a serie of the important federation colonies. first of all. Alpha Centauri iV, also called New Montana according to Mermory Alpha. Alpha Centauri was one of the first human colonies around 2060 in Star Trek and also one of the founding members of the Federation. Zefram Cochrane moved to this planet and named a lot of places there. in the 24th century New Montana is the place of the Cochrane Institute, the main science and developing center for warp technologies.

i will continue this serie occasionally and hope, you'll enjoy this lcars graphic!

#2 The Vega Colony
and here follows the next major colony- the vega colony
"As of the 23rd century, Vega IV was home to over 5 billion Humans and served as a major trade port between neighboring star systems. Vega IV's nightlife is also known to be amongst the most festive and exciting in the Alpha Quadrant.
Most of the planets population live in the developed northern continent, whilst the southern continent has been left undeveloped so that scientists could continue to study the ruins and discover about the planet's original inhabitants." (FASA sourcebook: The Federation).
so i came to the reason, as an important trade point, the planet must have some orbital stations and made him the home of the federation office of trade relations.
hope, you'll enjoy it!

here follows the third colony file: the izar colony in the epsilon bootis system, a double star system with an orange giant and a bluewhite dwarf star. distance to the earth 210ly.. the izar colony was founded 2183 and in the 24th century it's known for his meteorologic institute and the starfleet tactical school.
i gave the planet one moon and a tiny ring, the remnant of a big ice asteroid, destroyed by gravitional forces. *a good place for tactical training, i suppose.
i hope, you'll enjoy this.

#4 Casperia Prime

and here follows casperia prime, a wonderful blue and ringed world. casperia primeis also callled "the vacation capital in the horvian cluster". casperia prime was mentioned twice in DS9.
i gave the planet one moon "anula" and called the capital "riete nuovo", according to the real city casperia in italy in the riete area.
i hope, you'll enjoy it and more to come here.

Nice. Isn't that where Bashir was going to go for a medical conference but was prevented from leaving by Section 31?

I keep using that duranium color #336699 to tone down some details of cutaways, but I haven't tried it on LCARS brackets yet.

deif
06-30-2008, 08:15 AM

#5 Cestus III
another colony from ds9 - cestus III . cestus is a planet near the border to the gorn hegemony and has faced several conflicts with them. in the 24th century, cestus gave room for a quarter million of displaced people from the cardassian conflict.
cestus reinvented the old earth sport baseball and became very popular with his basebal league. the cpaital is pike city. nanietta bacco from cestus III was elected 2380 as president of the federation of the united planets.
hope you'll enjoy it.

All nice-looking planets. Ferenginar might be a challenge, because of the widespread heavy rain, and maybe constant snow in the polar regions, with a few clear spots.

I just looked at the impulse engine again. I guess I should draw them more like that.

#6 The Altair Colonies

two planets surrounding the big white sun altair (alpha aquilae) - altair IV and VI - and belongs to the first colonies of mankind.

altair IV was several times mentioned in ST in context with medical facilties, so i gave them this facility. the planet became colonizied after the colonization of altair VI.

altair VI is regarded as an excellent shore leave location and an important planet within the Federation. it has ruins of an ancient civilization from high archaelogical interest.
as altair IV declared independence in 2267, a brief conflict sparked and ended by federation peacekeeping forces. in 2285, the government on altair VI continued to govern both worlds pending a resolution from the federation diplomatic corps.
the waters of altair VI are rich in natural minerals that are renowned for their medicinal properties.

as part of the kobayashi maru scenario at starfleet academy, it was claimed that the spacecraft kobayashi maru had just left altair VI.

i hope, you' ll enjoy this both worlds!

#7 Deneva Prime
deneva prime is a planet located in the kap for-system and was founded at 2140. *the mineral rich asteroid belt provided a strong mining business and brought wealth into the system. at deneva prime federation researchers first discovered the energy-channeling properties of dilithium.
in the 23th century a disease striked deneva prime and decimated the population dramaticly. *
two denevans served as presidents of the united federation of planets.

hope, you'll enjoy this.

I was just wondering how these could go together with something like the Bravo Fleet Trekiverse star map. One way is to show them as insets on a scrolling map. For a Web site, it could be done so that people click on a planet on the map to see one of your displays.

#8 Mars Colony

last but not least we have to focus on our own solar system. there are two human colonies - one of them is mars.
mars war colonisied in 2103, got to soem confilcts and processes of independance. but at the end it became a meber of ufp.
the major and most famous facility on mars is starfleet yard utopia planitia at a geostationary orbit over the same anottated region of mars.

#9 lunar colonies
the moon was the first aim to get colonisied in the late 21th century. as a major human settlement, luna falls under federation jurisdiction and protection. in the 24th century, there are over 50 million people living on the moon and it possess even an artificial lake called lake armstrong.
copernicus fleet yard is as starfleet facility in orbit over the moon.
there is presumably a large vulcanis lunar colony as well on earth trabant.

enjoy!

#10 Aldebaran Colony

Aldebaran III is one of the earliest Federation-founded colonies.

The Colony was admitted into the United Federation of Planets in 2216.
Aldebaran is a major port for Federation shipping as an administrative and supply center.
In 2224, the Olympic Games were held on Aldebaran III.
The planet is also home to Starfleet's New Aberdeen Naval Yards in addition to several private shipywards. (Memory Beta)

#13 Tarsus IV
tarsus IV is a m-class planet in the beta quadrant, the 4th of five planets in the tarsus-system. 2246 it became famous after an incident, as an exotic fungus destroyed the half of the food supplies of the colony. in an act for which history has dubbed the governor from tarsus IV as kodos the executioner, he ordered the "less necessary" half of the colonists be put to death.
among the victims was hoshi sato, the 117-year-old inventor of the linguacode translation matrix, retired to tarsus IV to live with colonist family members. They, too, were among the executed. (source memory alpha and beta).

i hope, you'l enjoy this lcars-graphic too.

looks great, bill
as you may have noticed, i augmented the generator with the sphere and tube at the outer section and annotated it as damping field emitter. that means, i've combined the gravitiy generator with the damping field system. i think, that both systems are based on graviton fields and therefore you can use the same generaor to generate both fields. just my considerations about this issue.

Flash doesn't cut it for this. To be done right, it has to be programmed in C. And most people who try to even set up the programming environment for Windows (MinGW plus Allegro plus the various libraries) fail. I have that set up, and even then, I had to write software to make up for some of the shortcomings of those tools. I compiled an LCARS package with it, but Windows is really a bad environment for LCARS. My regular LCARS system is faster and smoother than any software you've ever seen, but the limiting factor is that it requires its own computer--one without Windows. Oh yeah, the Mac OS won't run under Windows, either.

But even so, my Windows-version LCARS, while nowhere near as comprehensive as the regular LCARS 24, is still faster than other Windows software.

If somebody wants to do that in Flash, and you guys are happy with it, that'll save me a lot of work.

deif
09-10-2008, 08:08 AM
i^m not an IT specialist. but if you have written it in C, it should be possible to transscribe it to macOS X, as far i know. MacOS X is an Unix BSD based system. there should be someone, who knows how to do that ?

update
i was quickly going into the net and found this: http://cocoadevcentral.com/articles/000081.php
another statement was, if you use QT, you can use your applications crossplatform - windows, mac, linux. just trow my two cents into it.

LCARS 24
09-14-2008, 01:48 AM
The planets won't be hard to put into an interactive LCARS display. The subspace scans have been done in Flash. You've probably seen them on Adge's LCARS Web stie. For cross-platform stuff, that would involve a lot of time, and I'd have to buy some more computers and possibly commercial software. It's not in the budget, expecially the time. For QT or the like, all my code would have to be translated and then modified to conform to its protocols--big job.

Adge's Flash VOY panels:
http://www.lcars.org.uk/lcarstemplate.htm?Page=lcars_Voyager_panels.htm

Your warp coil and gravity generator made it into the release of LCARS 24, which is up now and being downloaded.

Norpin V is the fifth palnet in the Norpin system and a famous retirment place. In 2294, Captain Montgomery Scott was due to retire at the Norpin colony but never arrived, because his ship crashed on a Dyson sphere. it's alos the home of the norpin falcon.

#16 Archer IV
Archer IV is the fourth planet in the Archer system, also known as 61 Ursae Majoris. It was one of two planets named after famous Starfleet explorer Jonathan Archer.
Shortly after the launch of the Enterprise (NX-01) in 2151, the planet was discovered by the ship while they were on a mission to explore a nebula. The crew did not know initially was that much of the native flora and fauna emitted a pollen with toxic levels of tropolisine. Prolonged exposure to the pollen led to humanoids having hallucinations and becoming extremely paranoid.
Because of the presence of the pollen, what would've been an excellent candidate for human colonization unsuitable for settlement at the time of Archer's inital survey of the planet. It would not be until the early 23rd century that humans were able to eliminate the pollen from the planet's surface, and settlement of the planet was able to proceed. By the mid 23rd century, Archer IV became a major Federation colony - with a population of approximately 700 million people.
The planet is the source of the beverage Archerian slug wine.

following the style of the previous star system graphic i did this one of the sol system. i used the nemesis colorscheme as well and followed the wikipedia informations about the planets.
btw. i used the "new" classification of planets and dwarf planets.

A very nice LCARS graphic indeed.* Was this to do with the orbital tracking you and I spoke about some time back?
Great work.

thanx, adge
no, what we' where talking about was the idea to draw the LCARS spinner in 3D - i liked to draw the inner circle with the direction controls as a ball and was asking how to create it in illustrator. thanx anyway.

thnx, explorer

and here follows the fifth ans sixth LCARS star system graphics: the binary alpha centauri system (rigel kentaurus and quindar). it's also the fifth founding member world of the federation.

as you may realize, i've tried to combine scientific and fictional facts for this graphics. for the alpha centauri system i did several researches and i suggest to put al rijil as the homeworld of the centaurans (former humans) and centaurus -also known as the "alpha centauri colony" (centauran-terran-vulcan) together in the rigel kentaurus system (alpha centauri-a). this is also mentioned in johnsons worlds of federation.

then i suggest to localize "new montana" - the human colony founded by zefram cochrane - into the quindar system (alpha centauri-b) as it's mentioned in captains glory from william shatner. this clears some frictions about alpha centauri in star trek in an easy way.

hope, this makes sense and you'll enjoy the graphics!

just another LCARS graphic:
an astrometric analysis with the "real" Taurus Molecular Cloud. I used a real and official astronomic picture of this giant real molecular cloud and starformation region only 140 parsecs away. thought, this region would be an interesting subject for starfleet scientific missions and therefore it would give reason for some nice LCARS graphic.
enjoy!

the previous graphic inspired me to do a library information terminal - in my favorised nemesis colorscheme, for shure - ;)
i used the description of "gravity generation" from the tng tech manual as text and my gravity generator graphic.
i think, this is a nice attempt for a LCARS information terminal and could used for other uses as well.
in between i hope you'll enjoy this graphic!

Deif, you've truely mastered this screen. The details are incredible. I don't know how you've done this. Looks like a 3d rendering yet I know you and your work and I'm ready to bet that you have drawn every details and lines yourself.

Deif,

As always to your high standard, wonderful indeed.

Would you or anyone like to try this screen from Nemesis? A couple captures attached. Snaps taken from the corridor entrance into the Cartography room.

I have started but the LCARS info each side of the Enterprise E is un-readable, and I think will require some artistic licence.

deif

will have a look on that.
thnx for the screencaps, adge.

04-12-2010, 09:38 AM
well, here's another LCARS graphic: Astrometric Anaysis Briar Patch.

i bought a set of the TNG Movies 7-10 and was surprised how i was impressed from insurrection. this movie wasn't reall my my favourite but this time really faszinated me. so i started to draw this astrometric graphic. i think, this space region deserves a lot of attention from science.
the basic information for this chart derives from the star maps from geoffrey mandel.
i'm also fascinated about the nearby multistarsystem Castor and aloud me to plant a UFP research station named Newton there. more about this soon...

deif
01-07-2011, 09:39 PM
thnx, guys!
well, it always seems a pain, when it comes to the need to do extra stuff for a graphic. for the cardassian graphic it was all the stuff from the DS9 station. i was drawing around two weeks only for that, but at the end it was worth to do it. maybe we should call them "fruits" and not "by-products".....LOL!

deif
03-13-2011, 03:09 PM
another LCARS graphic....
it's an office wall monitor from starfleet headquarters as seen in the episode "paradise lost" in DS9. it shows the global security net status during the dominion crisis before the war.

deif

Robert

Looks great my friend!

The only nitpick is the outer frame colors. At the moment, you have them as purple. And from the shots you have there, they do look purple. But I think it's probably do to the lighting. And reality, they are using the same "brushed silver" color as seen everywhere in Voyager and the later season of DS9.

Adge
04-13-2011, 06:55 AM
Deif, Nicely done. I support Robert's obsevations.

Kmprīrak
04-13-2011, 07:01 AM
Fine work, my friend, very cool stuff. I would change the color of the frames, well, I think purple is okay, but it is too intensive. Aside this nit, great work my friend!!!

that's why i love this forum: you will always get some constructive hints from your friends - and a lot of encouragment!! and here the saying becomes true: many eyes see more then only two!

i don't know, why i've been stucked with this pink color!?? the light scene on the shows do falsify the colors a lot and i was seeing only this pink. but you're right: it's brushed silver!

corrected pics attached.

Thank you deif.

Kmprīrak
04-15-2011, 07:57 AM
Yes, the size is too large, in the original the small numbers are still next to the white top rectangle. And maybe the tabs under the title are too small. But aside, it is a good work!

it depends: i need some hours for some of the graphics, others will take days or even months. it was my job as designer and i loved it. then i was lurking all the star trek graphic stuff for years until 2006 i bought adobe illustrator and began to draw my own stuff. concerning the copyrights i appreciate the creative commons i respect them myself too.

hi deif,
that means that your job is designer and the great Star Trek stuff (LCARS graphics) are your hobby? Please let me know it is possible to learn drawing LCARS graphics or is it only a job for designers?
regards chris

deif

LOL!!
designer was my first job, which i'm no longer active since decades....and yes, to draw LCARS stuff is my hobby. i do it for fun and to encourage people like you to start exploring your own creativity!
yes, you can learn to draw stuff like these. no problem. the only things which will be helpfull is your own imagination, boldness, a piece of paper and pencils. then you can start to develop your own projects with drawing sketches.
the next step could be to use a computer software like illustrator, photoshop (expensive, but professional tools) or more cheap solutions like inkscape (free open source vectorgraphic app). have a look to the tutorials here (http://www.lcarsc.com/forumdisplay.php/17-Tutorials) or here (http://www.okudagrams.com/forum/forum.php) (you need to register there as well to see the very helpfull tutorial videos). you may also download some of the freebies here (http://www.lcarsc.com/blog.php) and learn from them. hope. this was helpfull for ya!

well, and here a rare insight into the confidential files of starfleet!!
i'm proudly present you the transphasic torpedo, the only weapon to fight successfull against a borg cube! here some explanations from memory bete:
"The transphasic torpedo was a very powerful weapon brought back in time from the early 25th century by Admiral Janeway. These torpedoes were designed specifically for use against the Borg and a single transphasic torpedo is capable of destroying a Borg Cube. (VOY episode: "Endgame")
The transphasic torpedoes work by delivering a subspace compression pulse existing in an asymmetric superposition of phase states. If one subcomponent of the pulse is blocked by shielding, enough others will still succeed in penetrating to the target to ensure that the majority of the pulse is still delivered. Each torpedo's transphasic configuration is different, randomly generated by a dissonant feedback effect, so there is no way for the Borg to predict the configuration of its phase states in order to shield against them. (TNG novel: Greater Than the Sum). In 2381, the USS Enterprise-E was the only vessel that had been fitted with transphasic torpedoes."

i really hope, you'll enjoy this LCARS graphic!
