this made me really proud: the first atomic force microscope image recorded on another planet. It was taken on July 9, 2008, by the mars probe "phoenix".
and - applause - the atomic force microscope on "phoenix" is Swiss-made!

This distiinction has actually been at the heart of a feud in the world of geology because of a geologist named Chris Dunn, who carries around a pocket microscope and has made and published wrong determinations in those rare cases where the difference could only be seen with advanced high-resolution instruments.
