LCARS WRITING

Hi, this is my first post in ages, finally got time to do some LCARS graphics for a new model I'm making. Was wondering if you guys could give some tips on how to achieve smoother writing for the bigger labels?

I'm using the swiss font and many of the curved letters, eg S, O etc all seem out of alignment. Do you type and modify the letters seperately? Or do you use other methods of keeping them all even?

I am familar with that problem. You wouldn't be able to use my solution, but what about laying down a black line top and bottom across the whole line after doing the lettering?

Yeah I tried the black box idea yesterday and it didn't look right.

I've been playing around with making these letters slightly smaller than the rest but they still look odd.

Does anyone know if the correct Helvetica Font has this problem?

do you use a truetype or postscript font?
with a postscript font your should have ni problems - but isn't free. you have to buy it.

Try Helvetica Ultra Compressed. I just looked at an example of it, and it didn't have that problem.

Thanks for your input guys, I bought Helvetica Ultra Compressed today, wish I had hung off now and got the Postscript version.

I've added a pic of the three different ways to do this writing and to be honest there isn't much of a difference between the Helvetica and Swiss911 apart from the spacing.

Let me know if any of you can tell a difference or give your opinion on what looks best.

Top: Helvetica
Centre: Swiss911
Bottom: Swiss911 with black bars top and bottom

the center swiss 911 font looks more bold then the helvetica on the top. my opinion: i like the swiss 911 better.
