    Default Newton Research Space Station

As i already mentioned at the thread with the LCARS astrometric graphic of the briar patch, the star system castor lies in the neighborhood of this stellar phenomenon.

the real castor star system itself is a phenomenon. it's a sextuple starsystem with three pairs of suns. they orbit the same mass center, called a barycenter.
this makes the castor starsystem significant in two ways:
first, it's a point of high strategic interest for starfleet in terms of the soona threat (dominion war , soona-baku crisis)! it would be wise to install a strong starfleet presence near the briar patch.
second, the castor star system would be from highly scientific interest in therms of gravitional forces and interactions.

so i planted a big federation space station right at the barycenter of this system called NEWTON RESEARCH STATION. it's a huge station similar to a spacedock with commercial and scientific facilities.
i used the bottom section of the spacedock for this project and also a real gyroscope model from today to create the shape of the station.

there was also the seal of the station to create.

the third step will be a MSD graphic.

hope, you' ll enjoy it as much i had fun to create it!

Nice. The patch looks like one of Mike Okuda's designs for NASA.

I remember Joe Ralat's starbase illustration, where he showed it in half exterior (right side) and half interior cutaway (left side), which I thought was a good way to depict this kind of thing. Maybe it's the same in one of the tech manuals.

    Here's what it looks like:

Hey deif, very cool project. Is it possible to show the system map larger? Yīknow I am the astro-man! :-D

    thnx, bill
yes, i know this wonderful graphic from Joe. i will do the MSD of the Newton Station in the same style, because i also think, it's a very appropiate way to show a huge station like these. more to come soon....

    thnx, kmpr_rak!
here is an extended view of the system display. the display is based on the real astronomic data from the castor star system and i was following a display from solstation.com of this sixtuple starsystem. i thik, i will use this graphic at least for one more work - the star system set. mor to come here also too...

WOW! Absolutely awsome! I especially love it when someone does work that includes a real star system (I'm kind of an astronomical nerd, if you get what I mean). I hadn't herd that Castor was a 6 star system though, so I looked it up. It confused me at first because the system is named kinda funny. The entire system is divided into 3 binary systems: Castor A, Castor B, and Castor C. The thing that confused me was that Castor A was the only system actually named Castor (meaning the stars actual name). All the other systems have different names, so at first it was hard to find until I put 2 and 2 together to make 6 lol.

thnx, andy and robert! i really appreciate your kind comments.

i think, i'm also some kind of an astronomical nerd too...! i love to use real stuff like this one. the fact, that the three binary systems form the star system called castor indicate, that there is a quite interesting barycenter (masscenter). this inspired me to place a scientific starbase right there. for the name of the station it was obviously to use the name NEWTON.

2 and 2 together makes 6?! LOL! ;-) i know, what you mean....

Lol but wouldn't that put a lot of stress on the station if there are a bunch of stars tugging on it from different angles?
