Stargate: Legacy

As I am also a fan of the "Stargate" saga, I have developed a rough sketch for another series. It is an indirect successor of "Stargate Universe", but the basic plot is totally different.

I will work from time to time on it and will post the results. Currently designing the new gate (portal). :-D



"Stargate: Legacy"

A science team from Earth visits the uninhabited planet P9R-450 on the edge of the Milky
Way Galaxy and discovers an Ancient stone plaque with Ancient symbols engraved.
After decrypting the symbols, the team is able to remove the plaque and a cloaked Ancient
laboratory is discovered. Further investigations lead to the discovery of an extended database,
revealing tons of information about the Stargates, Ancient history and also new gate coordinates
for thousands of new worlds within the universe. The coordinates for one world, catalogued as
“S7E-531”, are still encrypted and saved by a special code. It can be decrypted later on Area 51 with
help of an Ancient artifact that was found earlier.

S7E-531 seems to be of a special meaning for the Ancients as it looks like the world is, owing to
its galactic position, a special junction between the Milky Way and different other galaxies.
It is also possible to dial the planet’s gate from the Milky Way Stargates and the ones from the
Pegasus Galaxy without any support installation as it was handled before.

The Ancient database reveals some more interesting facts: it seems that S7E-531 (the moon of a
massive gas giant), the Ancients called it “Esperia”, was a location where they worked on the
improvement of the established Stargate system, and it reveals a totally unknown new gate design
that was never seen before. It is necessary to dial all nine chevrons to reach this gate, but
surprisingly the energy one needs for dialing is much more lower than expected and calculated before.

A team from Atlantis starts a mission to Esperia and enters the beautiful moon with a slight orange
sky through the described gate, located within a small complex of buildings of Ancient design.
As the team leaves the gate room, different systems activate their selves, and a holographic
message occurs, welcoming the visitors and explaining where they are now. The gate they came
through is a so-called “Star Portal”, the latest development in Stargate technology the Ancients made
before the war with the Wraith became critical and they had to stop nearly every scientific projects.
The portal is the way to another extended system of gates throughout the universe, containing modern
systems and also combining previously established gate technologies.

The Ancients had sent out a number of large ships to distant locations of the universe to place portals
on possible interesting planets and moons, similar to the ships that placed stargates on other adequate
worlds some ten-thousand years before. While the different stargate systems are compatible to
each other, the star portal system is a bit different. It is (theoretically) able to dial every stargate in the
universe via a star portal, but only portals are able to dial other portals. The “MegaPortal” on
Esperia is the only one that can be reached through the normal stargates of the Milky Way and the
Pegasus Galaxies. It serves as a junction between the gate and the portal systems.

Authorities of the IOA on Earth approve the permanent Terran presence on Esperia, and so a new
chapter in the exploration of our universe is opened …

And some concept notes so far.


1) S7E-531 is a distant moon of a massive gas giant on the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy. The Ancients
named it “Esperia”. They left the moon millennia ago after the war with the Wraith became more
serious and dangerous.

2) Next to the Terran presence on Esperia there are also members of some other people who have sent
some emissaries, like the Jaffa, the Nox and a faction of the Genii. A new authority, the “United
Gate Coalition” (UGC) was founded.

3) The gate/portal on Esperia is a junction between the gate and portal systems. Only portals are able
to dial portals, while portals (theoretically) are able to dial every gate.

4) The symbols on the portals are different to the ones on the different known stargates, but it is able
to “translate” the symbol systems to each other with the found Ancient database.

5) The portals were build aboard special starships the Ancients sent out thousands of years ago.

6) Although a typical portal address contents of nine chevrons that have to be dialed, the energy level
is much more lower than that a stargate needs by dialing all chevrons.

7) The gate/portal on Esperia is named the “MegaPortal”.

8) The first new discovered portal was discovered on C5A-979, an uninhabited planet with a thin
atmosphere on the edge of the Andromeda Galaxy, app. 2.7 million light years away from Esperia.

9) The most distant portal (until now) was discovered on Y1R-173, an uninhabited planet app.
20 billion light years away. Ruins of a meanwhile extinct higher developed species were found.

After checking the net for other Stargate projects, it seems there are a lot using "Legacy" within. I will change my concept to "Stargate: Substance", that marks the basic plot also very well I think!

i don't like "stargate: substance". what about "stargate: unlimited" or "stargate: remote spaces". just my two cents.

To hold the tradition, the sub-title has to be a single word. "Unlimited" would be "SGU", and that was "Stargate Universe". I will think about further.
