    today, 50 years ago, yuri gagarin started with his spacecraft wostok-1 (east-1) to the first manned spaceflight. the duration longs 108 minutes.

    with this spaceflight, the first step to an incredible star trek of mankind was done!

    Yep, and as I am from the former German Democratic Republic, it was already a topic in the elementary school. He was one of the "great heroes"! And he still is, IMO!!!

    The photo you used was taken long after the flight of Gagarin. It was one of the promos the Soviets shoot later, there are no real pics of the flight or landing itself.
