Special Request

As some of you may know I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT for my local county fire department. Recently, our District Cheif has put out a request that we come up with a slogan and logo to represent our individual district within the department. One suggestion brought up was to have a logo professionally made, so that we could put it on our trucks and uniforms without having to worry about copyright infringement or upsetting the original artist or the service that already uses it (a problem that sometimes comes up here as well). After hearing this I immediately thought of this website. There are many great artists here, and although it is not a typical sci-fi graphic that you guys are used to, I believe it is not outside anyones skill level that regularly contributes to this forum.

Let me say, before I continue, that I do realise that this is not a graphic that would typically be represented on this site, so if ANYONE feels it is inappropriate for me to ask here, please inform me. If necessary, Robert or an admin may close this thread or delete it before this becomes an issue.

Honestly, I feel that the artists here are the best people I know to ask to complete the task. I would be willing to pay for the graphic, or at least the rights to use it. Unfortunately, because this graphic is for a non profit public service, I will not be able to pay much, but it is my hope that we will be able to work out a deal.

The request I am making is to create a logo for use by our fire district. The department is requesting a logo similar to one in common usage, but it will have to be unique enough as to not be considered an extention of someone else's work. We are requesting a logo of a leprechaun firefighter, with a green helmet with the number 8 on the shield (we are District 8, Hart Valley Fire Service, San Juan County Fire Department). The leprechaun can be doing anything relating to firefighting (carrying a tool such as an axe or halligan, using a fire hose, etc).

If anyone has any interest in this project, has any questions, or requires reference material, please let me know.

for me it would be helpful to have some more infos like already existent logos for the community and so on. here in europe we're not so familiar with all the stuff you have overseas....

Thank you guys, I really do appreciate all the help with this! That was another reason why I thought of this site, everyone here is genuinely nice and want to help each other out. It really means a lot to me, and my department, that you guys want to help out.

Also, here are some reference pics for logos and fonts and such, none of which really needs to be incorperated into the image but I know how much attention you guys have to detail, so if you would like to use it then here it is. Wow Dief that is really great! I'm very impressed that you were able to recreate the county logo so well, it is one of the more complicated firefighter crosses. I also love the burning 8, it looks so well done, along with the green helmet, exactly the kind of artistry I expected from the people of this site! Unfortunately I'm not sure if we can use them, as it is a variation of the county logo as a whole (the county owns the rights to the logo, and we would be the only district using a county logo that was modified for us).

It is such a great logo, so I am going to pitch it to them anyway, the worst that can happen is the county office will tell us we can't put it on the trucks, so I will show it to the district staff and see what they say.

The logo that our district cheif was asking me to pass along was one of the Leprechaun Firefighters, like the logos I have posted above, only with an 8 on the helmet (like Dief's wonderful green helmet above). I know that if you had that and still incorperate the flaming 8 in there somehow my cheif would be sold soooo fast!

here is a sample for a decal. I haven't added any district names or additional ornaments, nor have I added any highlights since I first would like to know if this is in agreement with what you are looking for, before I proceed.

If this meets approval, the logo can be further customized by adding highlights, district name and other relevant information and working out some minor errors in the sample.

Haha that is great! Did you draw this yourself or did you base it of another image? I love the bowtie, and the helmet and shamrock are great! This is definately another one I'm going to show the staff. I didn't realise I'd get so many responses and attempts, thank you so much. It is really nice to have a few different images to show the staff, they are both really good and also very different. Thank you J.Anderson!

It is going to be another month or two before we start looking at what logo we want to use, so if anyone else would like to contribute I would appreciate it, the more the better. Thank you again everyone!!!!!!!!!!
