Default Galaxy Class - Hyper detailed MSD

Next up on my drawing board is a redux of my Galaxy Class MSD.
This one is going to take a while. It is being drawn for an RPG and will be displayed in full detail on their website. A neat zoom function will be used so visitors can zoom right in on details. So, this MSD will be getting the same level of detail, and more, as my last few MSDs received.

Oh, and according to the official blue prints (which I have here beside me, all 15 or so A1 sheets), this is how tall the computer cores are! (The large purple objects)

Can I ask how it is you are doing this? Are you drawing from scratch or "tracing" a given schematic in a program like Illustrator/Inkscape Photoshop/Gimp??

Drawing from scratch in Illustrator. Obvisously I reuse elements of each MSD, makes no sense in always re-inventing the wheel. But yeah, all drawn by me in illustrator. No tracing, all by eye.

For this MSD, I am following the Rick Sternbach blueprints to locate all the major components. Once those are in place, I'll go freehand and let it flow.
